A meeting of the G7 Global CBRNE Partnership Meeting took place in Rome on 23-24 February 2017. CBRNE (pronounced ‘SEE-burn’) is an acronym for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive materials and aims to improve the security of these materials and prevent them falling into the possession of terrorists.

CBRNE (pronounced ‘SEE-burn’) is an acronym for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive materials and aims to improve the security of these materials and prevent them falling into the possession of terrorists.
The Chemicals Working Group reviewed the progress made during the last year and the current threat level. The Group believes that air-borne toxic chemicals posed a significant threat as demonstrated by the use of chlorine in Iraq and Syria and the possible use of mustard gas in Northern Iraq.
It plans to build an on-line portal as an accessible source of information for relevant organisations. ICTA also proposed an action plan highlighting the importance of the continued development of voluntary industry frameworks leading to solutions to the issue of chemical security.
The next meeting of the Group is planned for 14 July 2017.
