ICTA Spotlight: Tim Doggett, CEO of the Chemical Business Association

We are delighted to feature Tim Doggett, Chief Executive Officer of the Chemical Business Association (CBA), who also serves as a Director and Honorary Treasurer of the Trade Association Forum, Vice-Chair of the UK Alliance of Chemical Associations, and Chair of the UK Road Pricing Coalition. A highly respected industry leader, Tim brings more than four decades of experience in transport, logistics, and supply chain management.

Having started his professional journey in a warehouse at the age of 16, Tim has built an impressive career across the UK and international supply chain sectors. In 2020, he was appointed CEO of the Chemical Business Association, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong passion for supporting businesses, people, and industry collaboration.

The Chemical Business Association is the leading voice of the UK chemical supply chain, representing distributors, manufacturers, logistics providers, warehousing companies, and service providers. Through advocacy, regulatory guidance, industry best practices, and a commitment to safety and sustainability, the CBA plays a crucial role in supporting its members and promoting responsible business conduct across the sector.

Under Tim’s leadership, the association has significantly expanded its reach, influence, and international profile. Working closely with governments, regulators, businesses, and global organisations, the CBA helps its members navigate an increasingly complex regulatory and commercial environment while strengthening the resilience of the chemical supply chain.

Although Tim entered the chemical industry through his logistics background rather than through science or manufacturing, he quickly recognized the sector’s importance to everyday life. With chemicals contributing to more than 96% of manufactured goods, he believes the industry offers an incredible range of career opportunities that extend far beyond laboratories and production facilities. This conviction inspired him to establish Generation STEAM, an initiative designed to highlight the wide variety of skills, professions, and career pathways that support the chemical sector.

Since becoming CEO, Tim has overseen a period of significant transformation within the CBA. New initiatives such as the Future Council, Generation STEAM, and the Chemmies Awards have strengthened collaboration and engagement throughout the industry. At the heart of this success is Tim’s belief in empowering people. He attributes much of the association’s growth to a culture built on trust, openness, accountability, and continuous professional development.

What continues to motivate Tim is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for both CBA members and the wider chemical industry. Whether advocating on behalf of businesses, helping members navigate regulatory challenges, supporting skills development, or engaging with policymakers, he remains focused on building a chemical supply chain that is resilient, innovative, and prepared for future opportunities.
